2nd Sunday After Christmas

God determines the number of the stars,
and gives to all of them their names. (Psalm 147:4)


Hi, Gang!

The Revised Common Lectionary would have us read just verses 12-20 of Psalm 147 this morning, but that would leave out my favorite part, which is the part where God names all the stars.

It is an amazing idea, and leads to all kinds of questions. What kinds of names do stars have? How close have humans come to these names with e.g. Rigel, or Polaris? Could we pronounce these names? Or even hear them? Do the stars all like their names, or do any of them wish they had gotten a different one? …
