1st Sunday of Christmas

Murillo's version of the adoration of the Magi

Memorable worship

Hi, Gang!

One of the students in our not-that-early Sunday school class shared this definition of worship, by Archbishop William Temple (1881-1944), found in Lawrence W. Althouse’s weekly syndicated column “The Bible Speaks” a few weeks ago:

… to worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God.”

It was this definition that led Temple to suggest that “this world can be saved from political chaos and collapse by one thing only, and that is worship.” Whether or not the worship that Temple had in mind happens often enough to accomplish the result he had in mind seems open to question, however.
