Something Needs to Change

Hi, Gang!

Here’s a slogan I heard recently: “If nothing changes, nothing changes.”

It’s in the category of “fruitful tautologies,” though technically it’s not quite a tautology, since “nothing changes” is being used in two senses. Its fruitfulness depends on the important difference between those two senses of “nothing changes,” and on the causal relationship between them. Still, I can’t argue with it, logically.

That’s not to say I never try to argue with it in practice, but I’m working on that.
