End in Sight

Materials in process

Hi, Gang!

Signs are that the process is working its way to a close. I finished revisions to the last chapter — really more like rewriting, and the insertion of something like an actual conclusion — Monday, and distributed it to the committee members. On Tuesday, I received confirmation of a date for the defense: Monday, October 25, 10:30 a.m. I am still finding errors in footnote format, which affects pagination, so still lack a final table of contents. The goal is to have all that formal stuff completed by Monday, which seems reasonable, even with bridge tomorrow night (clean house a bit, do grocery shopping, eliminate Friday night as a work night . . .).

Difficult to believe. Deeply, and weirdly, anticlimactic.

  1. I hear that a lot of people feel like that: ‘post-thesis depression’, or something.

Congratulations, anyway! You know, once the viva is over you are obligated to drink several bottles of champagne with your closest friends.

I’m still in the middle of my thesis…. but its going. Today I taught my first seminar(s)! They went ok! I was so nervous before they began. We talked about: “What is literature?” They were a bit confused, but I think they enjoyed it.
