Progress Report

I sent the first draft of the whole book I’m writing, “as is” — that is, faulty grammar, significant omissions of analysis and argument, loose ends sticking out seemingly everywhere, and all — to the chair of my committee on Tuesday. I printed everything out yesterday and put it in a looseleaf binder, so I can see it more or less from page one through to the end. There is still a lot of work to be done. [This amounts to an understatement, really.]

But . . . there is something about seeing it in this form that actually makes the work that’s left to do seem . . . manageable.

Before, it was a kind of infinite task. Now, it’s finite: all I have to do is fix what’s in that binder.
