Progress Report

Well, I have been meeting with my advisor regularly for the past six weeks or so, and we have determined that it is a bad idea to start with any kind of literature review, but that I need to start with close reading of the texts that are the central part of the work.  So, now I have written about 12 pages on two essays by Adorno (“the Actuality of Philosophy” and “The Essay as Form,” which actually does have a mention of utopia in it — in the context of the statement that the essay does not want to deal with eternal matters, but wants what is transitory to become eternal, so pursues that utopia that is blocked out by the very categorization of reality into transitory and eternal).
